ABOUT US

Book Club for Babies is a Non Profit 501 (c) (3) founded in 2016 by Kinshasa Y. Moon-Smith. I knew education was going to be a vital part of my daughters life, as education is a vital part of my life. As a graduate of the University of Michigan, I understand how important education is and how important the impact of early education can be. I started teaching my infant at 6 months old and witnessed the results. Babies can learn at the earliest stages of their life. My now eight year old daughter Kye is reading at an advanced level and loves reading and books. My two year old son Michael loves reading books and going to the library.

Book Club for babies is on a mission to increase the literacy rate in our community starting with one baby at a time. Babies hear sounds while in their mother’s womb and a baby starts to learn their new world when they are born. Nurturing your baby's brain is just as important as feeding your baby. Parents we are our baby’s first teacher, a mother and a father is the single most important job you will have and you will be teaching your child forever. Your child has a long educational journey ahead of them, when they start kindergarten they will be more prepared and you will know it because you helped develop your childs learning. It's a simple daily task, read everyday. Reading creates a bond, a special bond, I love to call it book bonding.

Book bonding is an idea I explored as my daughter grew and our reading together developed into a special bond. It led to me creating characters and telling stories. The time together reading with my daughter inspired me to write my first childrens books which will be ready to hit book shelves starting winter 2018.

Welcome Baby Now Let's Read, is a reading initiative targeting new parents, BCFB will welcome newborns with books when they leave the hospital and a reading guide to assist parents with reading. We want to encourage parents to start engaging and stimulating their baby's brain once baby is in the comfort of their new home. Parents please, "Take the Pledge," become a reading advocate for your family, 5 minutes a day will go a long way! Our motto is Early, Ever, After!
